My latest colorful florals and a new podcast episode

L’Orange series 2024 - soft pastels on sanded pastel paper

Welcome back to the blog, my colorful friends!

Happy Friday to you all, and I sincerely hope that you are gearing up for a fun weekend ahead. This year is the year of the BLOG and the WEBSITE for LFB Color Consulting. I am setting aside quite a bit of time to create content—written, visual AND audio—to more fully engage with you, my lovely audience.

In years past, I was so inundated with the architectural color specification projects and building out that side of my business, and admittedly the personal touch and communication with you were lost a bit. Things have evolved in a positive direction here at LFB Color Consulting.

Now that I’ve decided to pursue art, content creation and podcasting full time, I will be here on the blog much more often! I want to create content and art—beautiful works and commentary that color your life and feed your curiosity about the world around you. —your color girl Lauren B. :)

I invite you to freely comment on my blog here with any feedback and/or suggestions as to the type of content you’d like to read and hear. I’m all ears, friends! So let’s get started! Let’s talk art—botanical art specifically.

You’ll notice the floral art I’m displaying here. I’ve been experimenting with soft pastels on sanded pastel paper. The sanded, gritty aspect of the paper is what enables the richly pigmented but soft pastels to adhere to the paper. Once I complete these floral art pieces, it is essential to spray light coats—allowing the surface to dry between coats—of a fixative specific to soft pastels.

You will see the progression of my florals on my online gallery. Now that I made the decision to become a professional artist, there is a ton of experimentation happening in the art and color studio as you may imagine!

A new creation in soft pastels and rendered on sanded pastel paper - 2024

Why am I so focused on florals you ask? First of all, I see gorgeous botanicals and florals everywhere I travel—both near and far. Florals are pleasing to the eye, and they are favored art subjects for many an art collector.

I also want to create art that will sell! Additionally, I’m drawn to florals because of the ability to stylize them and make them uniquely mine. It’s hard to “mess up” a floral art piece. There’s always a way to draw or paint the petals and stems to make them one’s own. Observe what I’ve done to these orchids below. They are rebellious, flowing orchids I’d say! :) This piece was created on canvas paper, rendering in a combination of watered down oil pastels, pastel crayons and gold metallic finishing.

This art piece is definitely an experiment of mine! It also happens to have garnered the most “likes” of ANY of my work displayed on TikTok and Instagram.

The other topic du jour is the release of my second podcast episode—my first monologue! This is the episode you’ll want to hear, as I detail the origin and inspiration of this podcast, the types of guests I’ve invited to talk to us, and what my mission is for the Coloring My Way Across The Globe podcast.

Have a listen below, my friends. By the way, I will soon be adding video to the mix as I record each podcast episode. Poco a poco—little by little—I am modernizing and maximizing all of the technology available to me for this podcast launch!

That’s a wrap for today, color aficionados. Please stay tuned for next Friday’s episode and even more colorful art creations.

I appreciate each and every one of you and will “talk” to you soon.

Colorful regards—
