This 7-piece series entitled “Catherine” is a very sentimental body of work for me. From the deepest recesses of my heart it is dedicated to the memory of my mother. She very unexpectedly passed away last year, and only now do I find myself beginning to grieve her loss fully. For me, art is not only a career; it is catharsis, facilitating the grieving that I must somehow release.
This floral series is done on part 8” x 10” watercolor paper (the first five) and 9” x 12” watercolor paper (the final two). All pieces were drawn in permanent black ink and rendered in a combination of watercolors, markers, crayon pastels, colored pencil, and water soluble oil pastels. I love to layer the pieces and build texture.
